MeshTexas is a community-run mesh network for Texas, built on MeshCore — long-range radios that let people send text messages without cell service or internet. No towers, no monthly bill, just radios talking to radios.
The network itself has been running for a while now: a self-hosted broker, a live analyzer and map, and coverage growing across Texas region by region. What’s been missing is a place to actually talk about it — share how-to guides, post updates as the network grows, and make it easier for new people to get involved. That’s what this Articles section is for.
What to expect here: setup guides for connecting your own device, updates as coverage expands into new regions, and the occasional announcement when something changes. Content velocity will probably be highest in the beginning and settle into something closer to monthly or quarterly after that.
A few things worth knowing about how this works:
- The core network is free, and always will be — see our Commitments for the details.
- We’re actively looking for property owners willing to host a node — it’s simple, revocable, and makes a real difference for coverage nearby.
- If you’re running MeshCore somewhere else in Texas and want in, reach out — we’d rather see the whole state covered than keep this to ourselves.
